हाथों की रिकवरी में मदद करेगा

Chennai, January 17 (IANS). Researchers from IIT Madras and Christian Medical College, Vellore have developed an inexpensive and portable robot based on plug-and-train technology for hand recovery.

‘Pluto’ (Plug and Train Robot) was licensed through the Technology Transfer Office-TTO ICSR and commercialized by Thrive Rehab Solutions.

It is claimed that this new device will solve the problems of people in clinical and home settings at affordable rates.

Pluto is the first and only indigenous robot tested in Indian homes to facilitate treatment.

Pluto has benefited over 1,000 patients across 11 different clinics in India over the last four years.

These patented technologies simplify hand movements. Helps patients suffering from stroke, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s and problems after hand surgery.

The device is suitable for use in rehabilitation centres, clinics, hospitals and even patients’ homes. These are effective and economical. It’s his hands that make recovery easier.

Professor Sujatha Srinivasan, head of the TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development at IIT Madras, said, “Pluto provides an affordable and good solution for patients suffering from post-stroke problems. It is portable, so the therapy can be done at home or at the bed.” “It is easier to take, improves recovery and reduces dependence on caregivers.”

“More than 1,000 patients with hand disabilities have used the device,” said Professor Shivakumar Balasubramaniam, department of bioengineering, CMC Vellore. At least 15 patients regularly use Pluto for hand therapy every week at CMC Vellore. Pluto has been the first and only indigenous robot to be tested in Indian homes.”

The device provides targeted therapy tailored to the needs of the wrist and hand using a set of actuators and interchangeable mechanical handles.
