Belagavi, 24 May (IANS). Health administration has increased vigilance in Belagavi, Karnataka amidst increasing cases of Kovid-19. The Belgavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) Hospital on Saturday launched a special 10-bed Kovid-19 ward after a pregnant woman was recently infected with Kovid-19 at a private hospital in Belagavi.
This ward has been declared a restricted area to prevent unnecessary movement and control the spread of infection.
No case of Kovid-19 has been reported in BIMS Hospital so far. Nevertheless, in view of increasing cases in Maharashtra and to be vigilant at the local level, the hospital administration has taken this step.
This special ward has been installed on the first floor of the hospital, which has been completely sealed. All necessary medical facilities including oxygen supply in the ward have been ensured. BIMS surgeon Dr. Vitthal Shinde said, “We have started this ward with 10 beds in the initial phase. Currently there is no case of Kovid-19 in our hospital, but we are ready for any situation.”
The hospital administration has also announced to introduce the facility of RT-PCR test from Monday. This will allow suspicious cases to be investigated rapidly.
Dr. Shinde said, “We are strictly following all the guidelines issued by the government. Our priority is to ensure the safety of patients and staff.”
Health officials in Belagavi have appealed to local residents to follow preventive measures such as wearing masks, maintaining social distance and regular hand washing.
Meanwhile, BIMS Hospital has trained its staff under the Kovid-19 protocol, so that any emergency can be dealt with.
The cases of Kovid-19 are being closely monitored in Belagavi, located on the border of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The Health Department has also directed other hospitals to be vigilant and make necessary preparations. This step can prove to be helpful in preventing the possible spread of Kovid-19 not only in Belagavi, but also in the surrounding areas. The local administration has appealed to the people not to pay attention to rumors and rely only on official information.
