New Delhi, Sep 25 (IANS) Sulabh International, an international health and hygiene institute, and Aas-A-Ray Foundation, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, organised a capacity building programme at the ‘Tamanna’ (Sisters of Charity) residential complex in Najafgarh.
The main objective of this program was to focus on Swachhata Hi Seva, Mission Jeevan, Menstrual Hygiene Management and Medical Camp for abandoned women.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Namita Mathur said that the aim of this initiative is to increase access to health services and promote health awareness among women and girls.
Dr. Pankaj Kumar, President of ‘Asha: Ek Kiran’ Foundation, said that various medical services like consultation with general medicine, orthopedics, ENT, dentistry and gynecology specialists were provided in this camp. The team also did screening of hemoglobin, blood sugar and blood pressure. All these services are part of the efforts being run to promote the health of women and girls under the theme ‘Adopt a healthy lifestyle’ under Mission Life.
Senior doctors and officials of Sulabh International shared their views. Apart from medical checkup, the event also included educational sessions on menstruation, health and hygiene practices. Participants who attended the program were told about the proper use of sanitary products. Sanitary pads were also distributed during this time.
During the event, all the participants took a pledge of cleanliness and emphasis was laid on cleanliness of public toilets. Apart from this, a tree plantation drive was also launched in line with the broader goal of the event, which was aimed at promoting health and hygiene.
This free medical camp provided vital health services and also emphasized the importance of health, education and access to basic healthcare.
