This disease is caused by Leptospira bacteria. This bacteria spreads to humans through infected animals. Humans can become vulnerable to this disease by eating food items that have come in contact with the urine of infected animals or by coming in contact with soil, nose, mouth, eyes, wounds or scratched skin. According to reports, every year more than 10 lakh people fall prey to this disease. In this way the disease is transmitted between animals and humans.
According to health experts, 10 percent of people infected with leptospirosis lose their lives. If this disease is not identified in time, this disease can take a serious form and can be fatal. Flu-like symptoms are seen in the beginning of this disease. In the initial condition, problems like fever, eye infection-redness, headache, chills, muscle pain, diarrhea occur. Many times cough is accompanied by bleeding, chest pain and difficulty in breathing.
The condition of leptospirosis infection can be serious and even fatal in some cases. Due to lack of timely treatment or excessive spread of infection, difficulty in breathing and meningitis occur. In meningitis, the membranes that protect the brain and spinal cord become inflamed.
Since this disease is caused by bacteria, relief can be found with the help of antibiotics. For this it is very important for you to protect yourself. For this, the most important thing is to avoid coming in contact with contaminated water. Keep distance from animals and use clean and safe water for drinking. If there is a wound anywhere on your body, apply a bandage on it and take proper care.
