Re receptors of 'sweet taste' are also present in the heart muscle: Study

New York, 16 February (IANS). Researchers have found that our heart also contains the receptor of “sweet taste” (tastes), such as on our tongue. Scientists found that the heartbeat may be affected when these receptors are activated with sweet substances.

This discovery can open the possibilities of better understanding the way of working of the heart and developing new cure for heart diseases.

The new study found that these receptors are not only present in the heart muscle, but also active. When scientists stimulated these receptors from the aspartem that gave artificial sweeteners in the heart cells of humans and rats, the power of contraction of the heart muscle increased and the process of controlling calcium increased. Both these things are very important for a healthy heart.

Till now the taste receptors were seen to be associated with the tongue, but recent researches have found that they are also present in other parts of the body and do different functions there. This is the first time a study has identified a receptor (TAS 1R2 and TAS 1R3) of “sweet taste” especially on the surface of the heart muscle.

Researcher Micah Yodar, who is doing research at Loyola University in Chicago, states, “When we eat, heart rate and blood pressure grows. It was first believed that it is just due to signs of the nervous system. “

But now scientists believe that due to increasing the amount of sugar in the blood after meals, these sweet taste receptors become active and can change the heartbeat.

Interestingly, the number of these receptors was found more in the heart of heart patients, indicating that they may have any connection with heart disease.

Research also showed that when these receptors are activated, a special process begins inside the heart cells, in which some important proteins control the flow of calcium and muscle contraction process.

In addition, this study can also explain why drinking more artificial sweeteners can make heartbeat unusual.

Scientists found that artificial sweeteners such as aspartem, especially, can very stimulated these receptors, which can make the heartbeat abnormal.

However, more research on it is more than what the effects of stimulating these receptors for a long time and can they be used to strengthen the heart.
