Kolkata, Sep 14 (IANS) The protest by junior doctors over the rape-murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital continued for the fifth day on Saturday. They are preparing to continue the protest indefinitely.
The protesting junior doctors faced inconvenience due to sporadic rains on Friday night and Saturday morning. However, the striking doctors continued their demonstration and protest.
However, some individuals and social organisations expressed solidarity with the protesting junior doctors and provided tarpaulins to protect them from the rain.
As sporadic rains continued on Saturday morning, the protesting junior doctors managed to escape the rain by using tarpaulins. The doctors are preparing to continue the protest indefinitely until their demands are met.
The junior doctors on Thursday have already rejected the West Bengal Chief Minister’s claim that their protest has a political angle and the objective is not ‘justice’ but ‘chair’.
The doctors continue to protest under the banner of West Bengal Junior Doctors Forum (WBJDF). According to WBJDF, there is nothing political in their protests. This is evident from the many instances where they did not allow opposition leaders, including elected representatives, to join their protests.
BJP Lok Sabha member and former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay and party MLA Agnimitra Paul came to different protest sites to express solidarity but were met with “go back” slogans.
According to him, they have protested against everyone who tried to politicise their protest.
