Paschimottasana is a yogasana that plays an important role in improving physical and mental health.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, this asana is especially beneficial for senior citizens. This not only increases flexibility, but also helps in relieving many health problems.
Paschimottasana is also called ‘Seated Forward Bend’, there is a yogasana in which the body is tilted forward and the muscles of spine, hamstrings and collves are drawn. This asana gives mental peace by making the body flexible as well as relieving stress.
The practice of Paschimottasana gives many benefits. Its practice brings flexibility in the body. At the same time, hamstrings, collves and spinal cord makes them flexible and strong, which also relieves back pain. Light pressure on the abdominal muscles reduces problems like constipation, obesity and indigestion. This asana reduces the possibility of sciatica. By reducing stress and anxiety, it keeps the mind calm. The special thing is that this asana is particularly beneficial for the elderly.
Experts also explain the correct method of doing West. For the posture, first sit on yoga mats and spread both legs directly towards the front. Keep the claw upwards and straighten the spine. Take a deep breath and raise your hands up. While exhaling, slowly bend forward to the waist and try to catch the claws. After this, stay in this position for 30-50 seconds, take a deep breath.
Performing Paschimottasana gives many benefits. However, experts also recommend taking some precautions. People suffering from stomach ulcers, hernia or severe back pain should not do this asana. Pregnant women and others should consult a yoga specialist or doctor before doing it. It is best to do it on an empty stomach in the morning.
