New Delhi, 11 April (IANS). The trend of smoking is increasing rapidly. Even women are not behind in this. Many women are in the fact that the consumption of cigarettes and alcohol is a symbol of their economic and social empowerment. Because of this, many women of elite class have made cigarettes and alcohol an integral part of their lives. It is universal that smoking is harmful for health. The concerned also keeps warning with its danger.
Today (11 April) is National Maternity Safe Day. In such a situation, the health of pregnant women is being talked about all -round. According to the Union Ministry of Health, on an average, 52 to 70 pregnant women die every day due to delivery or related complications.
However, several schemes have been started by the Central Government to curb maternity death, whose positive results are also being seen. But, at present, the question is also arising that the way the trend of smoking is increasing among women (especially among young women), how can they cause side effects during their pregnancy.
If a young woman is still 18 years old and she smokes continuously till the age of 25. After this, when she will get married and she will be pregnant, then what kind of side effects can she and her child have in such a situation.
On this, IANS had a special conversation with Dr. CK Birla Hospital’s Aastha Dayal and Dr. Deepti Asthana of Fortis Hospital.
Dr. Aastha Dayal says that smoking is harmful to everyone’s health. Whether it is a man or a woman, but when a woman comes, their health and their internal structure differ from many aspects than men. In such a situation, they should take care of many things, because the women will become a mother later, then they become extremely different from men in many cases.
Dr. says that women who smoke are more at risk of abortion than other women. The risk of abortion is 25 to 30 percent higher in smoking women. In such a situation, women will prove to be a good step for their better future.
According to Dr., along with this, there is also a situation like premature delivery in women who smoke. There is a possibility of delivery in such women before 37 weeks. Because of this, the child is kept in the ICU. The child is very weak and he has to face many health related problems later.
Dr. Aastha says that the weight of the child of smoking women has been seen to be low in general. In addition, the child of smoking women also dies in the womb. The children of smoking women do not get proper nutrition. Sometimes it becomes a threat to the lives of both mother and child. Later, there are complaints of asthma in such children. In addition, mental and physical development of such children has been seen less than other children.
Dr. explains that if a girl smokes continuously for the age of 18 to 25, her fertility may weaken in such a situation. According to the World Health Organization, the ability to get pregnant for smoking girls may be reduced by 30 percent, as the eggs (eggs) of smoking women are affected. Smoking contains nicotine, which affects the quality of eggs, ovulation may be affected. In addition, fallopian tubes can also cause damage. In such a situation it becomes difficult to get pregnant. In addition, the possibility of pregnancy stay in the tube increases and once the fallopian tube is damaged, then the option of getting pregnant is left from IVF itself.
Dr. says that according to the World Health Organization, there are ten million pregnant women in India who smoke. In addition, five percent of pregnant women are those who consume tobacco. At the same time, the risk of cervical cancer increases in women who smoke cigarettes and this is a cancer that occurs only in women. In addition, the quality of sperm of smokers may also be affected. This can also affect their fertility.
At the same time, Dr. Deepti Asthana says that for a long time smoke women may also have to face infertility problems. This can reduce their egg quality. If these women become pregnant, then their children can be of low weight. Such children can usually be unhealthy.
According to Dr., smoking women may have irregular menstruation.
Dr. said that smoking cannot be a symbol of empowerment of any woman. Today, the trend of increasing smoking among women is a matter of concern, which we all need to pay attention, because women later become mothers. Women are the backbones of the family.
