Seoul, October 21 (IANS). South Korea’s health ministry said it plans to co-host an annual biotechnology conference with the World Health Organization next month to discuss strategies for a sustainable global healthcare system.
The World Bio Summit 2024, under the theme “Future Investment for a Healthy and Secure Decade”, will begin in Incheon, west of Seoul, on November 11-12, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
According to the report of Yonhap news agency, Health Minister Cho Kyu-hong said, “The solutions to the problems related to healthcare at the global level will be discussed at the World Bio Summit 2024.”
This will be the third such event, where health ministers and other senior officials from government, business and global organizations will be invited to discuss key issues in the vaccine and biotechnology sectors.
“The participants will exchange the latest trends in areas such as new research and development, strengthening global supply chains and enhancing biotechnology capabilities, as well as explore ways to expand global cooperation,” the ministry said. “
It said the Asian Development Bank, International Vaccine Institute, other major organizations are planning to participate in seminars and other programs at the event.
The Health Ministry will also host the Global Business Lounge.
According to the World Health Organization, there is an urgent need to increase investment to address emerging health risks and address the mental, sexual and reproductive health needs of the approximately 1.3 billion adolescents (aged 10–19) worldwide.
“Promoting and protecting the health and rights of youth is essential to shaping the future of our world,” WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said recently.
