Seoul, January 20 (IANS). The South Korean Science Ministry said on Monday that it has identified 10 technologies to bring innovation to the bio-industry in the next decade.
Yonhap news agency quoted the Ministry of Science and ICT as saying that future technologies include human immunome, early detection of multi-cancer, ribonucleic acid structure, gene editors designed by artificial intelligence (AI), anti-aging antibodies, molecular Glue, motile living biobots, digital artificial limbs, bio foundation models and healthcare digital twins.
The Ministry clarified that the method of biological research is about to change. Till now, research in the laboratory focused on experiments and observations, but in the future it will focus on prediction and estimation based on Artificial Intelligence.
These technologies will be used in biological and other industries over the next 5 to 10 years, including medical, space and manufacturing industries.
Hwang Pan-sik, head of the R&D Policy Office at the Ministry of Science, said, “The Ministry of Science will work to develop promising technologies and build infrastructure for research and development (R&D), allowing the country to develop advanced life sciences. “Will help us become leaders in the industry.”
Earlier, the science ministry said South Korea will focus on advancing its national strategic technologies, including artificial intelligence and advanced biology, this year as part of efforts to take leadership in the global tech war.
The science and ICT ministries said in a joint policy report for 2025 that it will draw up a comprehensive roadmap to promote the development of the artificial intelligence industry, allowing South Korea to become one of the top three global leaders in the field .
Under the roadmap, the government aims to build a national AI computing center to secure advanced graphic processing units that play a key role in AI and help local companies and researchers in this field.
Additionally, the government plans to launch a 1 trillion won ($683.7 million) project to develop artificial general intelligence and create an 810 billion won fund to provide financial support to AI startups in the country.
