New Delhi, 13 April (IANS). According to new research, if obesity or overweight but diabetes -free adults take a drug called Tirjetide once a week, they can help in losing continuously and effective weight for at least 3 years.
The study was introduced at the European Congress on Obesity (ECO) in Malaga city, Spain. Research also revealed that women and those who did not have other obesity related diseases, they got more benefit from this medicine.
This research was conducted by Dr. Luke Buseto of Italy’s University of Padova and Eli Lily & Co., a pharmaceutical company. This study is the next stage of the trial already running on Tirjetide. This drug is already approved for the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes in Europe and America.
The study also reported that no new side effects were received from this medicine. Most people felt common effects like light nausea, diarrhea or constipation.
Dr. Buseto said, “Our long -term research made it clear that this drug is mostly effective in weight loss without being affected by factors like age, weight and obesity.”
He also added that the effect of medicine is not the same on all people, but women and those who had no disease related to obesity in their bodies give them more benefit.
Tirjetide drug mimics two natural hormones formed after eating in our body and GIP. These hormones activate insulin, reduce appetite and indicate the brain to fill the stomach.
This medicine slowly empties the stomach, causing the appetite to be late and the person feels full for a long time.
The US ‘FDA’ institution in November 2023 and the European Union in June 2024 approved the treatment of weight loss, especially for those who had problems like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol.
The research team said that this study will help to understand how Tirjetide affects different people and their health conditions. This will make it easier for every person to plan a different and better treatment in future.
