The National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued a statement late on Monday night, saying that the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at NIH has detected poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) in three children in different regions of the country, Xinhua news agency reported. ) detection is confirmed.

NIH said one case was reported from Dera Ismail Khan district and the other two cases were confirmed in the southern port city of Karachi and the southern district of Kashmore respectively.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) said that Pakistan is making all efforts to contain polio virus type 1 (WPV1). Of the confirmed cases, 26 are from Balochistan province, 16 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, 15 from Sindh province and one each from Punjab province and Islamabad.

The National Institutes of Health urges people to vaccinate their children under five years of age during every anti-polio campaign.

“The next mass vaccination is aimed at reaching more than 44 million children. This vaccination will take place in mid-December,” NIH said.

He said it is important for parents to ensure that all their children under the age of five are protected from polio outbreaks.
