New Delhi, December 16 (IANS). According to the information given in a latest report, by the end of this year the use of toilet cleaner in India will increase by 53 percent.
According to a report by market research firm Kantar, the country has seen an increase in the use of toilet cleaners and floor cleaners.
The use of toilet cleaner and floor cleaner in households is expected to increase from 19 percent and 8 percent, respectively, in 2014 to 53 percent and 22 percent, respectively, in 2024.
Swachh Bharat Mission, launched by the government on October 2, 2014, is a nationwide campaign to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management and create open defecation free (ODF) villages.
The report attributes the increase in household toilet cleaner usage to the success of the mission and marketing efforts.
The report said the mission has improved sanitation awareness and product accessibility, especially in rural areas.
According to the report, toilet cleaners have added more than 128 million new households and the floor cleaner segment has added 52 million homes.
The report says that the surface cleaner market is worth about Rs 4,200 crore, of which toilet cleaner’s share is more than half i.e. Rs 2,000 crore.
The Kantar report said that a decade ago the category was largely city-centric but now this has changed significantly.
A decade ago, 82 percent of households buying toilet cleaners were in urban areas, compared to 90 percent for floor cleaners.
K Ramakrishnan, managing director of South Asia, World Panel division at Kantar, said, “Urban areas are no longer the major source of this category, while rural areas continue to contribute 52 per cent. Clearly, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has helped Indian households Promoted the importance of hygiene in India and also helped manufacturers increase penetration in home hygiene categories.”
Since its launch in 2014, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has achieved ODF (Open Defecation Free) Plus status to more than 5,00,000 villages and rural sanitation has increased from 39 per cent to 100 per cent.
