New Delhi, 2 June (IANS). According to a new study by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, the viruses bring changes in a certain pattern according to the changes in the weather, time and its surroundings. Researchers studied 465 samples taken from US lakes for more than 20 years and reconduct 1.3 million virus genomes using machine learning, and concluded this based on the information received from them.
Scientists from IIT Madras, University of Visconsin-Medicon and Texas University conducted an international study, in which freshwater lakes were focused on the virus.
In this research, scientists studied 465 samples collected from the US Wisconsin lakes over a period of more than 20 years. It is the longest DNA-based study on the virus present in the natural surroundings on Earth. He analyzed all the DNAs present in the lakes samples with the technique called metagenomics and reconstructed 1.3 million virus genomes with the help of machine learning.
This study helped researchers know how the viruses change themselves with weather, in long gaps and changes in the environment.
In the paper published in the journal Nature Microbiology Journal, researchers said, “The virus changes with the weather. Many of these are re -emerged. Many viruses are re -appeared every year at a certain time, making it possible to predict about them.”
He said, “The viruses can ‘steal’ the genes from their hosts and use them for their own benefits. The viruses go through the process of gradual development and over time some genes emerge more effective in the process of natural selection.”
The study showed that the virus not only spreads the disease, but is also beneficial for nature. They are also helpful for other organisms.
Researchers detect 578 viral genes that help in important tasks such as photosynthesis (processing of food by plants) and methane. These viruses contribute to keeping natural systems healthy and stable.
Visiting Professor Dr. Karthik Anantraman in IIT Madras said, “Kovid-19 epidemic showed us how important it is to track the virus. It is important to understand how viruses are born, how to change and how to connect with their environment. It is not only necessary to deal with the epidemic, but also how many important are the viruses in the nature of the viruses to know how long the viruses are necessary to deal with the viruses. Time studies have been very short. “
In addition, by studying the virus in freshwater lakes, we can better manage water resources, natural environment and health of people.
This research suggests new methods, such as restoration of environment by using virus to fix polluted lakes.
