New Delhi, 9 July (IANS). There has been a lot of progress in the treatment of cancer, which has made people’s lives a bit long and hope has increased. But some serious side effects have also been revealed to treat this disease, which can affect the quality of the patient’s life.
Some scientists from Australia have done a research, which helps in understanding the reasons behind these side effects.
A team of Melbourne’s Walter and ELISA Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) said that a protein named MCL-1 is important in preventing cancer from growing and it also provides energy to our body’s normal cells.
He said that the medicines given in new treatment, they prevent MCL-1 protein and can also damage healthy organs of the body, especially the heart and liver, because these organs depend on this protein for energy. For this reason, some people have seen serious side effects during treatment.
It is clear from the new research that the side effects that are there are associated with the role of making MCL-1 protein energy. With this information, scientists can now try to make medicines that are effective on cancer, but do not harm the healthy organs of the body.
The first writer of the research, Dr. Caretin Brinkman, said that this research has helped to understand how the end of cells and the energy -making processes are connected among themselves. Scientists were speculating on this for years.
This study published in Science magazine attracts attention to safe treatment. With this, scientists will be able to reduce the damage on the body, mixing MCL-1 with other medicines better, and by giving the right amount.
WEHI’s lab scientist Andreas Stuser said that if medicines do not reach cancer directly and touch healthy organs, then the treatment of cancer will be more secure and better.
