World Thyroid Day

The problem of thyroid disorder is increasing rapidly worldwide. India is also not untouched by this. According to NFHS-5, 2.9 percent of people in India are in the grip of thyroid disorder. In such a situation, World Thyroid Day is celebrated every year on 25 May to give people awareness related to thyroid. This problem affects women the most. Let me tell you, this problem is caused by irregularity in hormone secretion from the thyroid gland. Prominent in Artemis Hospitals – Endocrinology, Dr. Dheeraj Kapoor is explaining why women come fast in the grip of thyroid and what to do for rescue?

So there is more problem in women

Estrogen and progesterone hormones found in women play an important role in the functioning of thyroid. The onset of menstruation, pregnancy and menopause changes the level of these hormones in the body of women in different stages of life. This change sometimes affects the functioning of thyroid and increases the risk of thyroid disorder. In many women, the problem of thyroid disorder is seen after breeding. This is called postpartum thyroiditis. During menstruation, there is an increased danger with fluctuations in estrogen levels.

Keep an eye on these symptoms

There are two types of thyroid disorder: hypo thyroidism and hyper thyroidism. Hypo thyroidism reduces the activation of the thyroid gland and makes the hormone low. At the same time, in hyper thyroidism, more hormone is secreted than hyperactivity of the gland. There is some difference in the symptoms of these two.

Symptoms of hypo thyroidism:

Fatigue and weakness

Sudden weight gain

Chill

Skin and hair dryness

Irregularity in menstrual

Depression and irritability

Pain in joints and muscles

Drinking heartbeat

Symptoms of hyper thyroidism

Lose weight

Softening

Discomfort

Heartbeat

Skin

Irregularity of menstrual

Hair thin and dry and more fall

Shiver

In addition to the above symptoms, swelling around the throat, change in voice, problems in digestion and swelling of hands or feet can also be its symptoms.

There are many ways of treatment

There are many ways to treat thyroid disorder. The most common method is the medicine. Hypo thyroidism is treated by transporting artificial thyroid hormones into the body through some drugs. Similarly, in the case of hyper thyroidism, the secretion of thyroid hormones is blocked through some drugs. In some cases the secretion of hormones is prevented by targeting thyroid cells through radioactive iodine therapy. The thyroid gland is removed by surgery in hyper thyroidism, thyroid cancer and some other serious cases.
