Trichy, 19 April (IANS). With the aim of spreading awareness about liver health, ‘World Liver Day’ is celebrated every year on 19 April. Programs are organized on this occasion. In this episode, a special awareness cyclothon was also organized at Apollo Hospitals in Trichy, Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
The purpose of this event was to make people aware of liver health and convey the message that ‘food is medicine, medicine is food’. This cyclothon was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Minister KN Nehru. Cyclothon began with Thillai Nagar and concluded at Anna Sports Stadium. About 120 cyclists participated in the event, including doctors as well as ordinary citizens.
All the participants underlined the importance of liver health and gave a message to the society that a balanced diet and regular exercise can prevent serious diseases. During the event, experts also highlighted the importance of prevention of liver diseases, timely investigation and adopting healthy lifestyle.
Hepatologist Dr. Kumaragurubaran said in a conversation with news agency IANS that the main objective of World Liver Day is to create awareness about liver diseases in the public. Currently cases of liver diseases are increasing and if these diseases are not identified in the early stages, it can cause serious complications. Therefore, their initial identity is very important. In addition, prevention is better than treatment.
He further said that the theme of this Liver Day also gives the same message. By adopting a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, your liver will be healthy. In the modern era, many people consume junk food, processed food and fast food. These foods initially accumulate fat in your liver, which can cause inflammation and liver cell failure over time.
