New Delhi, December 12 (IANS). Now only about one week is left in the year 2024. This year will always be considered important for the fight against diseases like cancer. On one hand, just a few days before the end of the year, Russia has claimed to have made a cancer vaccine. If this claim is true then this mRNA based vaccine of Russia will revolutionize the medical field. On the other hand, in June this year, the Government of India reduced the prices of 54 medicines and 8 special medicines.

After this, in the full financial budget presented after the Lok Sabha elections, giving great relief to the common people, the prices of 70 essential medicines including painkillers and antibiotics were reduced.

In June, the government had reduced the prices of many essential medicines. In the 124th meeting of NPPA, the prices of 54 generic medicines and 8 specialty medicines were reduced. At this time too, the prices of antibiotics, multi vitamins, diabetes and heart related medicines were reduced and along with this, medicines used in the treatment of serious diseases like cancer were also made cheaper.

After this, in the meeting of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) held after the full budget in the month of August, it was decided to reduce the prices of many more important medicines. NPPA regulates the prices of essential medicines sold in the country, which are commonly used for the treatment of various diseases. In this meeting, it was decided to reduce the prices of 70 general medicines and 4 special medicines.

The 70 medicines whose prices were reduced by NPPA included painkillers, antibiotics, medicines used in the treatment of fever, infection, diarrhoea, muscle pain, diabetes, blood pressure, heart and many lifestyle related diseases. Apart from this, the prices of 4 special formulation medicines were also reduced.
