A special court in Barabanki district convicted 12 people in the 18 -year -old case of violence and murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 1.18 lakh on each. An official gave this information on Tuesday.
The official said that five people from the plaintiff side were also sentenced to three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 thousand.
The court of Special Additional Sessions Judge Veena Narayan (SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act), while delivering the verdict, said that 12 people, including convicts Ajay Singh, were found guilty in the crime of murder, attempt to murder, Balwa, arson and Dalit harassment.
The case is of 4 March 2007. There was a rivalry between Krishna Magan Singh and Ajay Singh Paksha for being elected village head in Saraitha village of Patranga police station area. After the incident on the day of the incident, Ajay Singh and his associates attacked Krishna Magan’s family, in which a person named Chetram died during treatment.
The convicts include Ajay Singh, Jagannath Singh, Vinod Singh, Sahaj Ram Singh, Karuna Shankar Singh, Sanjay Mishra, Sahab Baksh Singh, Munna Singh, Mukut Singh, Pramod Kumar Singh, Rakesh Tiwari and Krishna Magan Singh themselves.
The three accused – Umeshwar Pratap Singh, Bhairav Baksh Singh and Shankar Baksh Singh – were acquitted for lack of evidence. At the same time, the court sentenced Ram Singh, Mansaram, Amresh Kumar, Nanku and Sarabjit of the plaintiff, convicted of assaulting and causing serious injuries, the court sentenced him to three years separately. During the trial, five other accused of the plaintiff side have died.
