A painful accident occurred late on Saturday night at New Delhi railway station. There was a stampede at the station due to a huge crowd of passengers. 18 passengers died in the accident, while more than 12 were injured, who have been admitted to the hospital. The officials gave this information on Sunday.

The Delhi Police has started investigating the incident and said that it will investigate the CCTV footage of the scene so that accurate information can be found regarding the incident.

In fact, due to Saturday-Sunday holiday, there was chaos at the station due to a crowd of thousands of devotees to go to Mahakumbh. The situation became uncontrollable due to lack of enough staff to control the crowd. The crowd started climbing on each other. Dr. Ritu Saxena, head of emergency department at Loknayak Hospital, has confirmed the death of 15 people.

The dead include 11 women and 3 children. Two died at Lady Harding Hospital. Railways have ordered a high -level inquiry into the accident. The NDRF team also reached the station for relief. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav expressed grief over the accident and said that the entire team is busy in helping the affected.

Atul Garg, director of the fire department, said, the stampede was reported on platform number 14-15 at 9:55 pm on Saturday night. Staff, including four vehicles, were sent to the spot. A devotee going to Prayagraj said that Shivganga Express was going on platform number-12. As soon as the car left, the entire crowd came at platform 14-15.
