The Indian Premier League (IPL) played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, in the historic final match of 2025, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 runs to win their first IPL title. After a long wait of 18 years, RCB got its name recorded in golden letters in cricket history. The victory was led by captain Rajat Patidar, while Virat Kohli, who is called the heart and soul of this team, played an important innings of 43 runs.
After winning the toss, Punjab decided to bowl first and limited RCB on 190 runs. Arshdeep Singh (3/40) and Kyle Jaymison (3/48) were Punjab’s most successful bowlers. Phil Soult (16), Mayank Agarwal (24), and Patidar (26) started well, but could not play a big innings. Virat Kohli scored 43 runs in 35 balls, but he too did not appear in his rhythm. Nevertheless, the team scored a challenging score of 190.
In response, Punjab made a brilliant start by scoring 52 runs in the powerplay, but the RCB bowlers returned to the match. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/38) and Krunal Pandya (2/17) broke Punjab’s back with their spin and swing. Shashank Singh played a brilliant innings of 60 runs in 31 balls, but in the end the team reached 184/7 only.
Liam Livingstone (25), Jitesh Sharma (24), and Prabhasimran Singh (26) played fast innings, but no batsman could stand until the end. Punjab needed 19 runs in the final overs, but RCB performed better under pressure.
After the match, Virat Kohli became emotional and said, “I tried to win this title every season. Never thought this day would come. It is one of the most special moments of my life. I will be with RCB till the last day.”
This was the fourth final of RCB, before the team had lost in 2009, 2011 and 2016. At the same time, Punjab was playing the final for the second time. This was the fourth clash of the season between the two teams and now the total record is in favor of RCB from 19-18.
For RCB, it was not just a win, but the result of emotions and dedication – the story of a dream to come true.
