February Pakistani officials have released 22 Indian fishermen from Malir Jail in Karachi and are likely to be handed over to India on Saturday.
The newspaper ‘Express Tribune’ quoted Malir Jail Superintendent Arshad Shah as saying that fishermen were released from jail on Friday after their sentence was completed.
Faisal Idi, president of ‘Idi Foundation’, made arrangements for fishermen to Lahore, from where they will continue the journey of return to India.
He highlighted the suffering of fishermen’s families while in jail for a long period and called for immediate release and early return after completion of the sentence.
Pakistani officials take the Indian fishermen to the Wagah border, where Indian officials arrange their return after completing the official formalities.
In fact, fishermen from the two countries cross the sea borders and enter each other’s water area where they are arrested.
According to the list of prisoners exchanged between the two countries on January 1, there are 266 Indian prisoners in Pakistan, including 217 fishermen.
According to the list shared by India, there are a total of 462 Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails, including 81 fishermen.
