The central government has started the process of implementing the master plan of Vision-2047. Under this scheme, a network of high speed corridors and expressways will be laid across the country. There is a plan to build a total of 44,735 km of high speed corridors and expressways under Phase-I and Phase-II.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has directed officials to immediately start work on 18,200 km of Phase-I. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will build these highways in the plains, while in the hilly states, the responsibility has been entrusted to the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
Key points of the plan:
Under Phase-I, construction of 18,200 km of high-speed corridors will begin soon. In the next 10 years, NHAI will build 34,000 km of high-speed corridors and expressways in the plains. The project is aimed at modernizing India’s transport network and reducing travel time.
With the construction of all these expressways and super speed corridors, one can reach any corner of the country in just 24 hours, where it takes several days to reach today. At present, there are many states in the country including Uttar Pradesh, where the network of expressways has grown so much in the last 10 years that expressways are now available to reach almost every district.
A similar vision is to connect every district of the country before 2047 and high-speed connectivity will be seen.
