Farmer leader Dallewal’s fast unto death continues but central government is not affected
India expressed condolences on the deaths and destruction caused by the devastating earthquake in the Tibet Autonomous Region. A magnitude 6.8 earthquake has struck Tibet, killing at least 126 people and injuring dozens of others. There was no mention of China in India’s message.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on social media platform “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” it said without specifying.
Penpa Tsering, the Sikyong or political head of Tibet’s government-in-exile based in Dharamsala, also offered prayers for all those affected by the earthquake.
“The Central Tibetan Administration expresses its deep condolences on the devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the Dingri region of Tibet and surrounding areas,” Tsering said on ‘X’.
He said the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) joins Tibetans around the world in expressing its condolences to all those affected by this disaster.
Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama lives in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. After the failed anti-Chinese rebellion in 1959, the 14th Dalai Lama fled Tibet to India, where he established a government-in-exile.
