86.5 lakh deaths from Kovid in the year 2022: CRS report

During the year 2022, about 86.5 lakh people died in the country, which shows a decline of more than 15 percent compared to the death of more than 1.02 crore people in the year 2021. This information was received from a new figure of the Civil Registration System (CRS).

According to CRS data, in 2021, there was a sharp jump in the dead number with deaths of 1.02 crore people across the country, while the figure was 81.1 lakh in 2020, 76.4 lakhs in 2019 and 69.5 lakhs in 2018.

The report said, “In the case of registered deaths, the number of deaths reduced from 102.2 lakh to 86.5 lakhs in 2021, ie decreased by 15.4 percent. Some major states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar and Haryana have contributed significantly in reducing the number of registered deaths.

As per the answer given by the government on July 29, 2022 in the Lok Sabha, about 5.26 lakh deaths occurred due to Kovid-19 till July 26, 2022.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported more than 47 lakh deaths in India in India, which was strongly opposed by the government. The Center had said that WHO’s estimates are prone to ‘many discrepancies and misconceptions’.

The government had said in response, “India had lodged a strong objection to the process of this unscientific modeling approach, functioning and result, especially when India provided the WHO the authentic data published through the Civil Registration System by the Registrar General of India.

The CRS report also showed that more than 2.54 crore infants were registered in 2022. The report said, “The number of registered infant births increased from 242.0 lakhs in 2021 to 254.4 lakh in 2022, which shows an increase of about 5.1 percent.”
