One of the 23 spans of the Gambhira Bridge on the Mahisagar river in Vadodara, Gujarat has caused a big accident. So far 9 people have been reported to have died. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed grief over the Vadodara bridge accident and announced a compensation of Rs 2-2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased. Explain that the injured will be given Rs 50,000.

The PMO wrote in a post, “The loss of life and property caused by the collapse of a bridge in Vadodara district of Gujarat is very sad. Consade the people who have lost their loved ones. I wish the injured to get well soon. Each deceased’s nearest family will be given Rs 2 lakh with an exemption of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF. The injured will be given Rs 50,000.”

President Draupadi Murmu also mourned this fortune. He wrote on X, “The news of the death of many people in a bridge-durcation in Vadodara district of Gujarat is extremely sad. I express deep condolences to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed grief over the loss of life and property due to the collapse of the Gambhra bridge in Padra area of Vadodara and ordered an immediate inquiry into the incident.
In a post on social media platform X, Bhupendra Patel wrote, “The tragedy of the collapse of one of the 23 spans of Gambhira Bridge connecting Anand and Vadodara is sad. I pray for the peace of the souls of those who lose their lives in this tragedy.”
Chief Minister Patel directed the officials to ensure preference treatment for the injured. He wrote, “Instructions have been given to arrange immediate treatment for the injured and to contact the Vadodara Collector to make it on priority basis.”
He also confirmed that teams of the Fire Department, Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have joined the rescue and relief operations.
The post further states, “Local municipality and Vadodara Municipal Corporation fire fighting team is working with boats and swimmers for rescue and relief operations at the accident site, and the NDRF team has also joined the rescue operations by reaching the spot.”
The Chief Minister has ordered a detailed technical inquiry into the reasons for the building collapse.
He said, “The road construction department has been ordered to conduct an immediate investigation of the accident. For this, the Chief Engineer – Design and the Chief Engineer – A team of two other private engineers specialized in South Gujarat and the bridge construction have been instructed to immediately reach the spot, make a preliminary inquiry into the reasons and other technical matters and submit a report.”
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi had earlier said that nine bodies have been recovered and six people have been rescued. Sanghvi told reporters, “Nine bodies have been recovered so far and six people have been rescued in the incident of the collapse of the Gambhra bridge over the Mahisagar river at seven o’clock this morning.” This bridge connects Vadodara rural and Anand districts.
He said that the Chief Minister has sent a high level committee to the accident site and sought a report soon.
He said, “The Chief Minister has sent a high committee on the spot and summoned the report immediately and the Chief Minister has seriously sent the road and building departments and other teams to take strict action by sending it there.”
Rescue work is going on. So far nine bodies have been recovered and about nine injured have been admitted to hospitals.
