In Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, a government bus slipped from the hill road to 100 feet, killing eight people, including four women. The police gave this information on Thursday.
The accident occurred in Tarangla near Masseran when the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus, including 29 people, was going from Sarkaghat to Durgapur in the district.
Police said five people were declared dead in Civil Hospital Sarkaghat, two in Government Medical College Nerchouk and one to AIIMS Bilaspur.
He said that 17 injured are undergoing treatment at Government Medical College Nerchowk, AIIMS Bilaspur and RKGMC Hamirpur, while four injured are undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital Sarkaghat.
Local residents saw the accident and immediately informed the police. Mandi SP Sakshi Verma said that the local police and ambulance teams immediately reached the spot and carried out the rescue operation, and took the victims out of the standing slope.
Verma, who was present at the scene, said that the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
Some reports said that an injured female passenger asked a person who helped him to bring his bag full of one and a half lakh rupees. The helpful found the bag and handed over to the injured woman.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, who also takes charge of the Transport Department, met the injured in AIIMS Bilaspur.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has expressed grief over the incident and directed the Mandi district administration to provide grant grant to the families of the deceased and better treatment to the injured.
He prayed to God to give the peace of the departed souls and to tolerate this irreparable damage to the bereaved families.
