A flight of Air India slipped on the AI-2744 runway in Mumbai amid heavy rains on Monday morning. The Airbus A320 (VT-Tya) aircraft coming from Kochi to Mumbai was landing on the main runway 27 am when it slipped from the runway and went to the unpaved area and then stopped on a taxiway.
All passengers and crew safe
An Air India spokesman said, “The runway exercise occurred due to heavy rains during the landing. Despite this, the aircraft reached the safe parking bay and all the passengers and crew members safely exited. The aircraft is currently ** ground and is under investigation. Passengers are safety.
Three tires cracked, engine cowling also damaged
According to sources, three tires of the aircraft burst and the outer part of the engine (cowling) has been damaged due to a soft ground or debris conflict. Despite this, the pilots got a safe taxi while keeping the aircraft under control.
Flights released from runway 09/27, runway 14/32
A Mumbai Airport spokesman said, “Main runway 09/27 has suffered small level damage, but no major damage has been confirmed. Precautionary, Secondary Runway 14/32 has been activated to continue air operations.”
DGCA team engaged in investigation
After the incident, the team of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has reached the airport and investigation has been started. According to the initial report, the aircraft slipped from the runway from 16 to 17 meters after landing near the touchdown zone, but returned by taxi without any structural damage.
