Aam Aadmi Party claims, Atishi was detained from Kalkaji JJ Cluster; Police refused

Aam Aadmi Party claims, Atishi was detained from Kalkaji JJ Cluster; Police refused

The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday claimed that the former Chief Minister and his leader Atishi were taken into custody by the police when she went to meet the residents of the landless camp in Kalkaji where the sabotage was to be taken. However, the police have denied the custody.

Talking to reporters, Atishi, while attacking the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, said that BJP and Rekha Gupta would curse the slums.

He said, “The BJP is going to demolish these slums tomorrow, and I am being sent to jail today because I am raising my voice for these slums. BJP and Rekha Gupta will find the slums’ hi. BJP will never come back.”

Previously, the Delhi Development Authority has pasted eviction notices on the houses located in the slum camp, which warns “encroachers” to leave the place within three days, otherwise to face action. The camp, where most of the residents are migrant workers, have seen a demolition campaign three times in this year and July 2023 last year.

Despite claims of being detained in May and June, a police officer said he was “removed” under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act along with others.

Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act, 1978 states that all persons should follow the appropriate instructions given by the police officer in the discharge of their duties under the Act.

If a person opposes, refuses or fails to follow, the police officer can remove the person, present him to the Metropolitan Magistrate or release him in minor cases.

Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi had earlier said in a post on X Hindi, “Yesterday the BJP is going to run a bulldozer on the landless camp. Today, the slums there were planning to protest, so the BJP government deployed thousands of police and CRPF personnel.”

He had said, “Rekha Gupta ji: You said that no slum will be broken, isn’t it? Then why have such a large number of police and CRPF forces have been deployed?”

Earlier, CM Rekha Gupta had said on Sunday that officials could not go against orders to demolish the slums issued by the courts and insisted that the displaced residents have been provided housing.

The comment has come amid criticism of the opposition AAP for demolishing the Madrasi camp slum near Barapula in South Delhi and a similar demolition campaign in other parts of the city.
