New Delhi. Haryana assembly elections are going to be held on 5 October. There are 90 assembly seats in Haryana. BJP has been in power in Haryana for the last 10 years. In 2014, BJP had won the majority in Haryana. In 2019, BJP fell short of majority. Then it formed the government with Dushyant Chautala’s JJP. This time opposition parties including Congress and Aam Aadmi Party are trying to stop BJP from coming to power in Haryana for the third time. As part of this effort, several rounds of talks were held between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party for an alliance, but this alliance has not happened yet. Now the news is that Aam Aadmi Party can decide to field its candidates on all 90 seats of Haryana.
KC Venugopal from Congress and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha from Aam Aadmi Party held several meetings for an alliance in Haryana. Raghav Chadha had said on Friday that an alliance between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party is necessary in the interest of the country and Haryana. However, nothing has been said by Congress about this so far. The news is that Congress is not ready to give as many seats as Aam Aadmi Party is demanding. Also, Congress wants to give those seats of Haryana to Aam Aadmi Party, on which BJP is in a strong position. Due to these complications, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress are not able to get along. On the other hand, Randeep Singh Surjewala from Congress has also raised his voice against any alliance with Aam Aadmi Party. The special thing is that Rahul Gandhi himself had asked the Congress leaders to explore the possibility of an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party in Haryana.
Now if Aam Aadmi Party contests the elections on its own, then there is sure to be a multi-cornered contest on every assembly seat in Haryana. Apart from Congress and BJP, BSP, SP, INLD and JJP are also going to contest in Haryana. If there is a multi-cornered contest, the votes of the opposition will be divided and there is a big possibility of them suffering losses due to this. Congress has also released a list of 32 candidates. BJP and JJP have also released the first list of their candidates. On the other hand, the list of Aam Aadmi Party has not come yet.
