New Delhi. Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi has been suspended from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly due to his ‘Aurangzeb Prem’. The SP’s Maharashtra unit chief Azmi read Kashed in the glory of Aurangzeb, saying that he was not a cruel ruler, he had built temples for Hindus. At the same time, Azmi accused of teaching wrong history. Following this statement by Azmi, the Shiv Sena UBT led by Uddhav Thackeray, including BJP, Eknath Shinde, had also opened a front against Abu Azmi. After which Abu Azmi was suspended from the assembly for the entire budget session.
Earlier yesterday there was a lot of uproar in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. BJP and Shiv Sena UBT MLAs, including Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, raised the demand to suspend Azmi from the House to protest against Abu Azmi’s praise of Aurangzeb. Eknath Shinde had described Abu Azmi as a traitor. He said that Abu Azmi praised Aurangzeb and insulted Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji. He has no right to live in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly House.
However, seeing the controversy growing, Abu Azmi released the video and withdrew his statement. The SP MLA had said that on the basis of the statement of some historians, he had talked about Aurangzeb, he had also mentioned the names of historians but today the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly took action against Abu Azmi due to the demand of members. On the other hand, some Congress leaders supported Abu Azmi yesterday amid the ongoing controversy over Aurangzeb. Senior Congress leaders Rashid Alvi, Imran Masood and Udit Raj had said that they agree with Abu Azmi’s statement.
