New Delhi. Along with true information, rumored information also continuously appears on social media. A case is also registered against those spreading rumours. Generally, cases of spreading rumors through social media come to light in political matters, but sometimes rumors about the Indian Army are also spread on social media. Now the Indian Army will deal strictly with those spreading rumors against it through social media. This right has been given to him by the Defense Ministry.
According to the news of English newspaper The Hindustan Times, the Defense Ministry has made a senior army officer the nodal officer to keep an eye on social and online media. These senior army officers will now keep an eye on social media and websites and see whether any wrong news or rumor is being spread about the Indian Army. If any false news or rumor is spread, a notice will be sent to the concerned by the Army under Section 79(3)(B) of the IT Act and action will be taken. Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act states that, “On receipt of actual knowledge or on being notified by the appropriate Government or agency thereof that any information, data or The intermediary fails to promptly remove or disable access to that content on that resource without impairing evidence in any way that the communication link is being used to commit illegal acts.”
Under this power given to the Indian Army, after sending the notice to the concerned, the arbitrators will have to decide what to do with the false or rumored news spread on social media or website. Earlier, the Army used to approach the IT Ministry for action on false and rumored news against itself. In such a situation, it took time to get the related social media post or news removed. Now after getting the authority, the Indian Army will be able to take immediate action.
