New Delhi. This year, after a long gap of 45 years, a grand staging of Ramlila took place in Mendhar, a small town in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. This cultural event is being considered a symbol of cultural revival and community unity in the area. This event of Ramlila reflects Hindu-Muslim unity and active participation of the community, thereby spreading the message of peace and harmony in the region.
Historical importance of Ramlila
The tradition of Ramlila was going on in Mendhar before independence. Till the 1970s, Ramlila was organized here every year with great pomp. But later, due to political instability and increasing influence of terrorism, this tradition came to a halt. Cultural activities came to a standstill for a long time and the staging of Ramlila stopped. A tense atmosphere remained in Jammu and Kashmir for decades. Jammu and Kashmir had special status due to lack of communal harmony, influence of separatist forces, and Article 370, which kept the state separate from the national mainstream. Due to this, cultural and social activities were also affected.

Since Article 370 was removed in 2019, the state has seen many social and economic reforms. Since the removal of Article 370, there has been success in controlling terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, and the security system has improved.
