Nashik: After Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tour on March 23, preparations for Simhastha Kumbh Mela to be held in Nashik in Maharashtra in 2027 have increased, but differences have arisen over the name of this huge fair. During the Chief Minister’s visit, representatives of Trimbakeshwar Akhadas demanded that the festival be called Trimbakeshwar-Nasik Simhastha Kumbh Mela. However, during the recent meeting with officials at Nashik Municipal Corporation headquarters, the leaders of Nashik Akharas emphasized that the name should be named Nashik Kumbh Mela.
Demand for more than 500 acres of land
Sadhus and Mahants of Nashik Akharas also demanded that they be included in the Simhastha Kumbh Mela Authority to be established by the state government and permanently reserved more than 500 acres of land for Kumbh. When asked about the names related to the name, Nashik District Magistrate Jalaj Sharma said, “Information related to this issue (after investigation) will be handed over to the government and a decision will be taken as per their instructions.”
Organizing between 14 July to 25 September 2027
The Kumbh Mela in Nashik district is expected to be held on the banks of the Godavari River between 14 July and 25 September 2027. It will be held after 12 years. Earlier in the day, Maharashtra’s Water Resources and Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan visited Trimbakeshwar to review the preparations for Kumbh. He said, “The state government is positive about various demands of saints and mahants.”
Among those who participated in the review meeting under the chairmanship of Mahajan, Divisional Commissioner Praveen Gedam, District Collector Jalaj Sharma, Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad President Mahant Ravindrapuri Maharaj, Mahant Harigiriji Maharaj of Juna Akhara, Indramuniji Maharaj of Bada Nimrinth Akha, Gopaldas Maharaj of the newly indifferent arena, Ganashanandi Maharaj of Mahanirvani Akhara, Ajaypuri Maharaj of Akhara Akhara Other dignitaries including Shankaranand Saraswati were involved. Representatives of the Akhara said that in Trimbakeshwar, especially in view of the narrow place in the Kushavarta region, new ghats should be built on the banks of the Narmada River. He said that new kunds should be constructed and facilities should be increased, which Mahajan has approved theoretically. (Language)
