New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday said he will spend a few months in retreat in the Himalayas for peace of mind after his retirement next month. While answering a question at the press conference organized to announce the program of Delhi Assembly elections, he shared his plans after retirement.
Kumar said he would go to the remote Himalayas for the next 4-5 months for peace of mind, away from all the glitz. “I need some solitude and self-study,” he said.
Rajeev Kumar will retire on February 18
Rajeev Kumar is going to retire on 18th February. Kumar, a 1984 batch IAS officer of Bihar/Jharkhand cadre, also mentioned his personal aspiration to educate children from underprivileged sections. Kumar said he received his early education in a civic-run school, where classes were conducted under a tree. He said, “I started learning ‘ABCD’ in sixth grade. We used to sit under a tree with a slate to study. I want to go back to those roots and teach such children.
Worked in high positions
Before taking charge of the Election Commission, Rajiv Kumar was the Chairman of the Public Enterprises Selection Board from April 2020 to August 2020. Earlier, he had retired from the post of Union Finance Secretary in February 2020. He held the positions of Finance Secretary of India from July 2019 to February 2020 and Secretary, Financial Services from September 2017 to July 2019. He was also the Establishment Officer from March 2015 to June 2017.

Kumar, famous for his poetic style, also displayed this style in his last press conference as CEC. In response to the allegations against the Commission, he said, “The era of allegations and accusations goes on, there is no grudge, the balloons of lies get inflated, there are no complaints, they give proof in every result but without proof they create a new world of doubt.” Are.”
The Chief Election Commissioner said that this is my last press conference. After this he said, “I appeal to all the voters and especially the youth to keep increasing their participation in democracy and keep decorating this very beautiful garden with their lap.” (with language inputs)
