Air India aircraft AL-171, carrying 242 passengers and crew members, crashed in Ahmedabad on 12 June. All of them were killed, while about 29 people were also killed on the ground, except a passenger in it, due to the plane collided with a medical complex.
Officers are conducting DNA tests to establish the identity of the victims as many bodies have either been completely burnt or damaged.
Dr. Rakesh Joshi, Medical Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, told reporters, “190 DNA samples have been matched till Wednesday morning and 159 bodies have been handed over to their families. The process of matching DNA samples of other bodies is still going on.”
The state government had earlier stated that samples of 250 victims were collected for identification, including people in the aircraft as well as those killed on the ground.
