Four days after the crashing of Air India aircraft in Ahmedabad, 99 dead have been identified through DNA Milan and 64 bodies of 64 people, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, have been handed over to their families. Officials gave this information on Monday.
270 people died in this accident.
Rupani was one of the 242 passengers and crew members who were riding in AI-171 of Air India to London. The aircraft crashed in Ahmedabad on 12 June. His body was handed over to his wife Anjali Rupani and other family members in the city’s civil hospital.
Officials are doing DNA tests to identify the dead, as many people were burnt so badly in the plane crash on June 12 that their bodies could not be identified.
Civil Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi told reporters, “So far 99 dead have been identified and the bodies of 64 people have been handed over to their families. These deceased were residents of different parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan. ”
He appealed to the condolences of the deceased that the remains of the dead bodies should not be worried about the long process of DNA matching.
He said, “We are trying hard to complete this process as soon as possible. Some people are complaining that even after 72 hours, the results have not come. I appeal to them that they do not panic, as this is a very important process, which has legal implications. As soon as the results come, we will call them. ”
Earlier, on Sunday, officials of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital said that samples of 250 dead have been collected for DNA matching. The dead include passengers aboard the plane and others killed at the accident site along with the crew members.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, at 1.39 pm on Thursday, crashed the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft in a medical college campus in Ahmedabad shortly after flying from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. 241 people aboard the aircraft going to London died, while a passenger miraculously survived.
29 other people were also killed in the accident, of which five were MBBS students.
