Ahmedabad plane crash confirmed 248 deaths so far, 81 bodies recovered, about 60 medical students injured

241 out of 242 passengers were killed while one person survived in the Bhishhar plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In addition, about 7 people are being claimed to death in the medical complex with which the aircraft collided. A total of 81 bodies have been recovered so far. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has increased the number of teams to seven to deal with emergency.

Let us know that on Thursday afternoon, Air India flight number 171 Boeing 787-8, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, crashed immediately after flying from the International Airport. The passenger plane collided with a hostel building of resident doctors near the airport, killing 241 people aboard, including 12 crew members.

Significantly, Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India visited the AL-171 aircraft accident site in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Friday.

Air India has set up friends and relative aid centers at Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi and Gatwicks to meet and take care of the needs of the families and loved ones of passengers on Flight AL 171. Additionally, Air India has requested media personnel to avoid calling the dedicated passenger hotline number.

Air India confirmed

Air India confirmed late Thursday night that a total of 241 people including 12 crew members, including 12 crew members in flight number 171 of Air India, were killed in the Ahmedabad plane crash.

Air India posted on X, “The 12-year-old Boeing 787-8 aircraft left Ahmedabad at 1338 at 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The aircraft crashed soon after flying. We are saddened to say that 241 out of 242 people aboard the aircraft have been confirmed. The remaining person is undergoing treatment in the hospital.”

Update: Air India confirms that flight ai171, operating from ahmedabad to London gatwick on 12 June 2025, was involved in an accident.

The 12-year-old boeing 787-8 aircraft departed from ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew.

At least 7 people died in BJ Medical College

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has claimed that an Air India plane crashed at the BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad, in which at least five MBBS students, a PG resident doctor and a superspecialist doctor’s wife died and more than 60 medical students were injured.

FAIMA National Vice President Dr. Divyansh Singh said that a search operation is still going on at the accident site and many people are feared buried in the debris. He said, “The bodies that have been found are completely burnt. So far at least five medical students, one PG resident doctor and a superspecialist doctor of Ahmedabad have died and more than 60 medical students have been injured and more than 60 medical students have been injured.”

He said, “According to the information that I have received so far, the aircraft crashed over the hostel building of BJ Medical College after losing its balance. Since it was a lunch time, most students and resident doctors had gone there for food.”

Media reports are said that 25 people may also die in the medical premises. However, the aircraft’s black box – flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder – also continues to be discovered to understand what happened in the final important moments of the flight to London’s Gatwick Airport.

The Indian Medical Association expressed deep grief over the tragic death in the plane crash in Ahmedabad. The IMA said in a statement, “We all pray for all the injured to recover early.”

A team of doctors of the IMA, Gujarat branch has been immediately deployed at the scene and City Hospital, Ahmedabad to assist emergency medical care with the help of IMA-Medical Student Network.

It said, “In this difficult time, the IMA stands with the families of the victims.

NDRF recovered 81 bodies

NDRF Inspector Vinay Kumar said that the special force has so far recovered 81 bodies and seven teams have been deployed to deal with the emergency.

Kumar told reporters, “The campaign has not yet been completed. It is going on. We have recovered 81 bodies so far. We cannot say anything about the total number of deaths. Seven teams of NDRF have been deployed.”

Aircraft accident will be intensively investigated

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Thursday confirmed that a formal inquiry has been launched by the Air India flight number 171’s deadly accident by the Bureau of Investigation (AAIB). Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is a division of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, whose function is to investigate aircraft accidents in India.

Naidu posted on X, “Following the tragic incident in Ahmedabad, a formal inquiry has been started by the Bureau of Investigation (AAIB), in line with the International Protocol set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).”

He said that the Government of India is also setting up a high -level committee of people specialized in various subjects to investigate the incident of accident and to strengthen such incidents to strengthen aviation security.

The minister said, “In addition, the government is setting up a high -level committee of experts of various subjects to investigate the matter in detail. The committee will work to strengthen aviation security and prevent such incidents in future.”

Meanwhile, the National Transport Safety Board (NTSB), which is a federal agency authorized by the Congress to investigate civil aviation accidents in the United States, is preparing to send a team of investigators to India to assist in the investigation into the deadly Ahmedabad aircraft accident.

NTSB Newsroom posted on X, “NTSB will visit India, leading a team of American investigators, who will assist the aircraft accident investigation in the investigation of the Air India Boeing 787 accident in Ahmedabad, India on Thursday.”

It further states that according to the protocol prescribed under the Annex 13 of the International Civil Aviation Organization, all the information related to the investigation will be provided by the Government of India.

The flight was scheduled to operate from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick on 12 June 2025, with 169 Indian citizens, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese citizens and a Canadian citizen.

How did such a big accident happen?

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Ahmedabad, Gujarat collided with a hostel building of resident doctors shortly after flying near the International Airport on Thursday. Airline officials said that miraculously a person has survived this fatal accident, as well as stated that the survivors were a British citizen of Indian origin.

The aircraft was conducted by Captain Sumit Sabharwal, who is a line training captain and who has an 8,200 -hour flight experience. He was assisted by First Officer Clive Kunder, who has an experience of 1,100 hours of flight. According to the Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft flew from Ahmedabad to 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. It made a medium call to the ATC, but after that the aircraft did not respond to the call made by the ATC.

Soon after flying from runway 23, the aircraft fell on the ground outside the airport circumference. An official said that heavy black smoke was coming out of the accident site. The Tata group has announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of every person who lost their lives in the accident.
