New Delhi. Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM is again in the news for fielding the accused of Delhi riots. After giving assembly ticket to Tahir Hussain, AIMIM has now announced another accused of Delhi riots, Shifa ur Rehman, to contest from Okhla assembly seat.
Shifa ur Rehman is lodged in Tihar in Delhi riots case.
Shifa ur Rehman is an accused in Delhi riots and is currently lodged in Tihar jail. A case has been registered against him under UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act). Shifa Ur Rehman has been the President of Jamia Millia Islamia Alumni Association. He has played a major role in the CAA and NRC protests.
Played important role in CAA/NRC Protest
Shifa Ur Rehman played a big role in the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Questions have been raised earlier also regarding his activism and leadership during these protests. Now AIMIM has decided to field him from Okhla Assembly seat.
After Tahir Hussain, Owaisi gave ticket to another accused of Delhi riots, Shifa ur Rehman will contest elections from jail.

Tahir Hussain also got ticket
AIMIM has earlier given ticket to Delhi riots accused and former AAP leader Tahir Hussain from Mustafabad assembly seat. While posting on social media regarding Tahir Hussain, Owaisi had written, “MCD councilor Tahir Hussain has joined AIMIM. He will be our candidate from Mustafabad Assembly constituency in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. His family and supporters met me today and decided to join the party.”
Announcement of Delhi Assembly elections
The dates for assembly elections in Delhi have been announced. According to the Election Commission, voting will be held on 70 assembly seats of Delhi on February 5 and the results will be declared on February 8. This time too there will be a triangular contest between Aam Aadmi Party, Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress.
By-elections will also be held
Along with the Delhi Assembly elections, by-elections will also be held on two seats. Voting will be held on Milkipur seat of Uttar Pradesh and Erode seat of Tamil Nadu on 5th February and their results will also be declared on 8th February only.
