Rakesh Joshi, Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital, said on Monday that the bodies of 260 people killed in the Air India-171 aircraft accident have been handed over to their families. 254 victims of the accident were identified through DNA matching, while six were identified through facial identification.
Rakesh Joshi told ANI, “I can say that a total of 254 DNAs were matched, all were identified and handed over to them. 6 was identified through facial identification, and also handed over to them. Thus, a total of 260 bodies were identified and handed over to their family members.” He said that out of the 260 bodies assigned, 241 passengers.
Medical Superintendent Joshi said, “There were 241 passengers and 19 were non-passengers. Out of these 241 passengers there were 181 Indians, 52 British, seven Portuguese and a Canadian.” Rakesh Joshi further said that it was a challenging task, but the health department and police together completed it within 13 days.
He said, “It was a very difficult task and I would not say that I took care of it. It was a great teamwork. We got the support and guidance of our superiors and administrators. Not only the health department but the police department, corporation, all worked. All departments worked collectively for this challenging situation or disaster. After all, everything was done within 13 days.”
On June 12, Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel crashed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel crashed into the hostel premises of the Bij Medical College. Out of 242 people aboard the aircraft in the accident, 241 people were killed, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
The aircraft accident investigation is leading the investigation into the accident and is intensively analyzing the data obtained from the black box of Air India flight AL-171 at its laboratory in New Delhi.
