An Air India flight coming from Hong Kong to Delhi on Tuesday caught fire in the Assistant Electricity Unit (APU) after landing at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi on Tuesday.
APU is a small engine that is usually engaged in the back of the aircraft. This main engine provides electricity to the necessary system when closing, such as climbing, landing, or standing at the aircraft gate.
According to the airline, the incident took place when the aircraft was standing at the gate and the passengers started landing.
An Air India spokesman said in a statement, “The aircraft flying from Hong Kong to Delhi on July 22, 2025, AL 315 caught fire in the assistant electrical unit (EPU) soon after the landing and park at the gate. The incident occurred when the passengers started landing and the EPU was automatically closed according to the system design.”
The statement said, “The aircraft has suffered some damage, although passengers and crew members are normally landed and safe. The aircraft has been stopped for further investigation and the regulator has been duly informed.”
Passengers or any member of the crew is not reported to have been injured. The aircraft has stopped in Delhi until technical evaluation and inspection by regulatory officials.
