New Delhi. Air India has completed investigation of the locking system of fuel control switch of all Boeing 787 and 737 aircraft included in its fleet. Air India has said that no flaw has been found in any aircraft. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had issued a directive to the Air Line Company to investigate the engine fuel switch system in view of security. The DGCA had asked to complete the work by 21 July. According to Air India, the investigation process of fuel switch locking system has been completed as per the instructions of DGCA.
The DGCA gave this directive following the preliminary report of the Bureau of Investigation (AAIB) related to the investigation of Air India’s Boeing aircraft accident in Ahmedabad. This report feared that the accident occurred due to the closure of the fuel switch of both the engine of the aircraft. In that report, some confusion about the closure of the fuel switch between the two pilots has also been revealed. After this report, many types of speculations were being made. Foreign media The Wall Street Journal and Reuters quoted sources close to American officials, in which it said that the captain of the Air India aircraft had shut down the fuel switch.
However, the US National Transport Safety Board i.e. NTSB chief Jennifer Homendi rejected these reports. He said that this report is only based on speculations. On the other hand, the Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has sent a legal notice to The Wall Street Journal and Reuters and has been asked to apologize for the misleading report. Earlier, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson and Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu also said that do not find any conclusion of any kind until the final report comes.
