New Delhi. Before the Air India aircraft crashed in Ahmedabad, its pilot gave the Mayday signal to the ATC control room. The call was responded to by the ATC within a minute but did not receive a response from the pilot and after that the plane crashed. Mayday is an emergency message. It is sent by a pilot to the control room in the event of an emergency. On the other hand, relief and rescue operations are going on at the accident site. Fire brigade teams are engaged in extinguishing the fire of the aircraft. The aircraft flying from Ahmedabad to London was traveling a total of 242 people, including both pilots and crew members. These passengers included a total of 217 adults, including 11 children, 2 babies. The aircraft had 169 Indians, 53 British, 1 Canadian citizens and 7 Portuguese.

After the accident, the Ahmedabad airport has been closed at the moment and all types of operations have been suspended till further orders. According to the report of Divya Bhaskar, 50 bodies have been recovered from the spot after the plane crashed. The bodies are being sent to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. The dead bodies are in a burnt condition, due to which it is impossible to identify anyone. Air India has issued a passenger hotline number 1800 5691 444 to provide more information regarding Ahmedabad aircraft accident.

On the other hand, DGCA has told that Captain Sumit Sabharwal was flying the aircraft. He has a long experience of 8200 hours of flying aircraft. While the aircraft co-pilot had an 1100-hour flight experience. According to the ATC, the aircraft flew from Ahmedabad to runway 23. After this, the ATC gave the Mayday call, and shortly after the plane crashed in the residential area outside the airport.
