The AAIB investigation report of the Air India aircraft accident said that the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued the ‘Special Airwriting Information Bulletin’ i.e. SAIB on 17 December 2018. In this bulletin, the FAA had said that those serving 737 aircraft of the Boeing company have informed that the locking feature was found to be disengaged in fuel switch in 737 model boing aircraft. In the investigation report of the Air India aircraft accident, AAIB has said that the FAA did not consider it insecurity, but advised the aircraft companies to inspire. The AAIB investigation report states that fuel switch designs in 737 Boeing aircraft were also in other aircraft of the same company. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, who was a victim of Air India accident, also had fuel switches of the same design.
The AAIB investigation report stated that the Air India management said that the fuel switch was not inspected because the FAA had advised inspection, not considering the fuel switch’s locking feature dispensing. In this accident, 260 were killed, including 241 people aboard the aircraft. Only one passenger could escape in the Air India accident.
