Amarnath Yatra postponed, both Baltal and Pahalgam closed; Know when the devotees will be able to visit

The Amarnath Yatra was postponed on Thursday due to heavy rains in Jammu for the last 36 hours. A warning from the Meteorological Department has warned of more heavy rains in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Bhiduri said, “Sri Amarnathji Yatra from Pahalgam and Baltal base camps has been postponed till 17.07.2025. Due to continuous heavy rains for the last two days, it has become necessary to do repair work on both routes.”

“However, passengers staying at the Panjtami camp last night are being allowed to go to Baltal with adequate deployment of BRO and mountain rescue teams,” he said.

Bhiduri said that the Border Roads Organization (BRO) has deployed a large number of people and machines on the tracks to complete the work to resume the journey from Baltal and Pahalgam base camps.

“There is every possibility that the journey will resume tomorrow (Friday), which will depend on the weather conditions during the day,” he said.

Another official said that two days of weather consultation warns of heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir, including the travel route to Kashmir.

Earlier, a woman pilgrim was killed and three others were injured in a landslide incident on Baltal road of Amarnath Yatra in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Officials said that four pilgrims going to the holy cave were swept away due to the landslide at Railpathri on Baltal road on Wednesday evening.

He said that the injured were taken to the hospital of Baltal Aadhaar camp, where a female pilgrim was declared dead. The deceased has been identified as Sona Bai (55), a resident of Rajasthan. With this, the death toll in Amarnath Yatra this year has increased to 15.

This is the first time this year when the journey from Jammu has been postponed. Since the journey started on 3 July, 2.47 lakh pilgrims have visited this temple 3,880 meters high.

A total of 1,01,553 pilgrims have left for the Valley from the Jammu base camp since the first batch by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on 2 July.

So far, more than 4 lakh people have registered online for pilgrimage. Last year, more than 5.10 lakh pilgrims visited the cave temple, where the ice of ice is located naturally.

The 38 -day pilgrimage will end on 9 August.
