After the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025, the US has appealed to India and Pakistan to find “responsible solutions” to exercise restraint and stress. 26 people died in this attack, most of whom were tourists. The attack is considered to be the deadliest in the valley after the 2019 Pulwama attack.
A US State Department spokesman said, “This is a developing situation and we are keeping a close watch on the developments. We are in touch with the governments of India and Pakistan at many levels. America urges all the parties to work towards the resolution responsible.”
The US has expressed solidarity with India by strongly condemning the attack. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have also reiterated their support to India by condemning the attack.
The responsibility of the attack was taken by “The Resistance Front” (TRF), which is considered an ally of Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. However, TRF later denied his involvement in the attack.
In his monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences on this attack, saying, “The terrorist incident in Pahalgam on 22 April has hurt every citizen of the country. Every Indian has a deep condolences with the families.” He also said that when peace was returning to Kashmir, this attack took place, and the culprits would be punished severely.
After this attack, tension between India and Pakistan has increased. India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty, expelled Pakistani military authorities and closed the Wagah border. Pakistan has also shut down its airspace for Indian flights.
The US appeal comes at a time when tension between the two nuclear -rich countries is at its peak, and the international community is closely monitoring the situation.
