US President Donald Trump has supported a Senate Bill. This bill talks about imposing 500% tariffs on trading countries with Russia. It also includes India and China. This news came out from a report by News18. Senator Lindsay Graham said that the bill will target Russia oil buying countries.
Graham said, “Countries buying goods from Russia will cost 500% tariffs if they do not help Ukraine.” India and China buy 70% of Russia oil. The bill has been prepared in association with Senator Richard Bluememethal. It will be introduced in August. Graham said that Trump gave the green signal to the bill during a golf game.
Trade between India and Russia reached $ 68.7 billion in 2024–25. This is much higher than the earlier $ 10.1 billion. India has increased the purchase of oil and other goods from Russia. The two countries set a trade target of $ 100 billion by 2030. This bill may affect Indo-US relations.
The bill states that if Russia does not hold peace talks with Ukraine or damages the sovereignty of Ukraine, the tariffs will apply. This tariff will also be applied on Russia’s gas, uranium and other items. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that strict steps can be taken without harming the peace process.
India is talking to the US on an interim trade agreement. Trump said that there could be a “big deal” with India. But the risk of tariff is increasing anxiety. Some experts believe that this will affect global trade. India said that it is ready for reduction in tariffs, but it also needs benefit.
