An accident victim in Punjab, fell into a drain; Five people died

At least five passengers died and more than two dozen were injured when a private bus fell into a drain in Faridkot district of Punjab on Tuesday.

The accident occurred on the Faridkot-Kotkapura road at around eight in the morning when the bus was going from Muktsar to Amritsar with 36 passengers.

Officials said that prima facie it appears that the driver had lost control of the vehicle, causing the bus to fall into the drain from a 10 -foot high bridge.

Some eyewitnesses claimed that the bus first hit a truck and then fell into the drain. Senior Superintendent of Police Pragya Jain of Faridkot told PTI over phone that five people have died in the incident.

He informed that 26 passengers have been admitted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital of Faridkot.

Two of the injured have been referred to another hospital in Amritsar. A person’s hand has been cut in the accident. A help desk has been built in the hospital.
