New Delhi. The Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal today passed the Anti-Rape Bill in the state assembly. Under this Aparajita Women and Child (West Bengal Criminal Law and Amendment) Bill 2024, there is a provision for death penalty to the accused of rape and murder within 36 days of filing the charge sheet. According to this bill, along with presenting the initial investigation report within 21 days and completing the hearing of the case within the stipulated time, it has been said to form a special force named Aparajita Task Force in every district. Not only this, if anyone reveals the identity of the rape victim, then there is a provision to take action against him as well.
BJP had announced to support this bill of Mamata Banerjee government. Let us tell you that there is a lot of anger not only in West Bengal but also among doctors and common people across the country regarding the incident of RG Kar Medical College of Kolkata. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had formed SIT to investigate this case but Calcutta High Court has handed over the investigation to CBI. CBI is investigating the case. At the same time, the Supreme Court has also taken cognizance of this matter.

Meanwhile, in the Kolkata RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case, former Additional Solicitor General (ASG) and senior advocate Pinky Anand has written a letter to Supreme Court Chief Justice Justice DY Chandrachud, suggesting the adoption of sexual assault evidence kits and the appointment of sexual assault nurse examiners to facilitate prompt action in cases of crimes against women. Pinky Anand has shared several recommendations for consideration in this regard in her letter. She said that these suggestions are not exhaustive, so she has also offered to provide additional information or any other details on these recommendations if needed.
