Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Tuesday that investing in India at present is an economically intelligent step for every original equipment manufacturer.
He gave an example of the decision of American smart equipment company Apple in this regard in which it has decided to make most of the iPhones sold in the US in India and buy from here.
At the ‘Bharat Telecom’ program, Scindia said that at present investment in India is not only a goodwill task, but it is an economically intelligent step for every OEM (original tool manufacturer).
Scindia said, “Apple has decided to make all its mobile phones in India and buy from here,” Scindia said. When you invest in India, you choose strength, reliability and originality. ”
Apple Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Cook recently said that most of the iPhones sold in the US in the June quarter will be supplied from India. At the same time, China will continue to create the most iPhones for other markets amid uncertainty on fees rates.
Scindia said that the government has seen manifold growth in the telecom equipment market.
He said, “Only Rs 4,000 crore, ie half a billion dollars, resulted in sales of Rs 80,000 crore, contributed Rs 16,000 crore to exports and 25,000 jobs have been created.” Therefore, the telecom equipment market in India has also increased manifold. ”
Minister of State for Telecommunications Chandrashekhar Pemmasani said that around 2014, India was a major importer of mobile phones, but now it has become a big producer and exporter of mobile phones.
He said that India’s mobile phone industry has become a total of 33 crore mobile phones and exporting five crore phones in 2024 due to making 60 lakh phones in 2014 and importing 21 crore mobile phones.
Pammasani said, “Apart from this, if you look at iPhone production globally, then today India has a 15 percent stake in it.”
According to market research company IDC, Apple has supplied 23.21 million iPhones worldwide.
Pemmasani said that ‘Semacist Mission’ .. India is turning into a global center for electronic, system design and manufacturing.
He said, “Establishment of semiconductor manufacturing facilities on Indian land is an important moment in our technology sovereignty.”
